Set up a tangle

Fill in the Provision section below (name, files — nothing plugged in yet; leave Wi-Fi blank and you'll pick the network from the tangle's own scan at the right moment), then press Start. The wizard chooses the storage layout from your files, asks for the tangle, and runs the whole sequence: firmware, layout, Wi-Fi, enrolment, slides, first publish. If it stops partway, press Start again — it picks up from where the tangle actually is.

This browser holds the signing key your tangles trust. It exists nowhere else — clear this browser's data and every tangle it enrolled must be factory-reset in person. Protect it, and you can publish from any browser you can sign in to.

Write this recovery code down now. It is shown once and never again. It is the only way back in if you lose the passkey — we cannot reset it for you, because we have never had it.

Provision Name this tangle Shown on its screen and in your list. It travels inside the signed, encrypted image — our servers never see it.

Give the tangle your Wi-Fi network — the one it should join to receive updates (your home/venue router or a phone hotspot you run). The tangle never broadcasts a network of its own, so there is no "tangle" hotspot to go looking for. Your passphrase goes straight from this browser into the tangle over USB — it is never sent to our servers.

Deployment personality (firmware ≥ 4)

accept-and-discard host writes (required for NEC-class TVs, which skip locked media; content stays immutable — writes are never kept) present the volume as 100% full (honest "disk full" instead of silent discard) eject & reinsert after update (firmware ≥ 8) — on by default. A USB drive isn't expected to change while it's plugged in, so hosts cache what they read: TVs ignore the "media changed" signal, and so does macOS. To show new content the tangle ejects itself and reinserts — waiting until the host has stopped reading, so it never interrupts a read in progress. Turn it off if something downstream can't tolerate the drive disappearing for ~300 ms; that host will then only see new content when you physically replug it. Projection folder (firmware ≥ 6; e.g. auto-display for TVs that only slideshow a fixed path — the updatable file appears inside it, the static files stay in the root; blank = everything in the root)

Baked onto the volume at ceremony time — menus, manuals, slideshow images. They sit beside the updatable file and survive every update. Up to 1 MiB total.

Program a factory-fresh tangle (LilyGo T-Dongle-S3) with the tangle firmware — bootloader, partition table and app. Hold the BOOT button while plugging it in, then click:

Storage layout How this tangle's flash is divided between the file it shows (updatable, over Wi-Fi) and the slides baked into it (instant to switch between, never re-downloaded). Set when the tangle is programmed. Changing it later erases both — the regions move, and the tangle can no longer find what it had. The image is doubled internally (an A/B pair is what makes an update atomic), so a bigger picture costs twice its size.

Updating an already-running tangle needs no BOOT button: it reboots itself into download mode on request. The partition table is left alone, so its identity, the file it shows, its baked slides and its Wi-Fi all survive. Connect it and Identify first.
